Who is responsible
Story Thread is run by Embroco LLC (United States). We are the data controller for the personal information described here, which means we decide how and why it is used.
What we collect and why
- Account details — name, email, login details: to create your account and sign you in (contract).
- Profile and writing — pen name, bio, photos, stories, comments: to provide the service and show your work (contract).
- Preferences — favourite genres and authors, follows, email settings: to personalize your feed and send updates you asked for (contract / consent).
- Private details you choose to give — such as birth year for the Writing Tutor: to adjust its tone (consent).
- Support messages — to answer you (legitimate interests).
- Usage and device data — IP address, browser, pages viewed: to keep the service secure, prevent fraud and improve it (legitimate interests).
Payment details are collected by Paddle, not by us.
Who we share it with
- Service providers who host and run Story Thread for us, including hosting, email delivery and AI checking tools.
- Paddle, our Merchant of Record, for selling our products, managing subscriptions, payments, tax and invoices.
- Professional advisers such as lawyers and accountants.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
We never sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open and as long as needed for the purposes above or legal requirements. After that we delete or anonymize it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your information, to object to or limit some uses, and to withdraw consent. Use our contact form and we'll respond within 30 days. You may also complain to your local data protection authority. You can turn off update emails anytime from the link in each email.
International transfers
Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Security
We use appropriate technical and organizational measures, including encryption in transit, private storage for uploads and strict access controls.
Cookies
We use only essential cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and remember settings like your reading theme. We do not use advertising cookies. You can clear them in your browser settings, though you may be signed out.
Children
Young writers should use Story Thread with a parent or guardian's permission.
